According to Nielsen/NetRatings, Google captured 46.3% of search queries in November 2005, while Yahoo! trailed behind with 23.4%. Approximately 2.4 billion searches were done through Google’s search engine, while about 1.194 billion searches were done through Yahoo!’s search engine.
MSN Search was number three with 11.4% of the search market, or approximately 583 million searches. AOL Search was fourth with 6.9% of the market, or about 350 million queries.
MyWay and Ask Jeeves were fifth and sixth respectively, although MyWay is owned by Ask Jeeves, who also handles its search traffic. MyWay obtained 2.5% of the searches done in November, while Ask Jeeves netted 2.3%.
Google also had its long fingers in the bottom rungs of the search hierarchy. The rankings for November’s search market also included EarthLink, Dogpile, Netscape, and iWon. Google is responsible for the search results for both EarthLink and Netscape.
