Google Debuts Bar Coded Window Decal Program

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Think of it as Googling in the physical world.

The search engine has launched a new campaign to send the 100,000 most searched local businesses in the U.S. window decals identifying them as such.

The “Favorite Places on Google” decals will be found in 9,000 cities and towns across all 50 states, according to Google. Each decal will have a unique bar or QR code, that can be scanned with a camera enabled mobile device with a barcode scanner app to get reviews, information and coupons.

The capability to leave a review on the mobile page is in development.

A gallery of several hundred “favorite places” in 20 U.S. cities is available at google.com/favoriteplaces.
