Google+ Boasts 235 Million Active Users, Introduces Communities

Google+Google has unveiled Google+ Communities, which will be pages where users of the social network can gather and find others who have the same interests. Communities, which can be public or private, will be centered on topics and interests, and will enable users to start hangouts and plan events with other members. It will start out as a “preview,” according to Google, and it’s going to be available via mobile soon. Along with the announcement of Google+ Communities, the company noted that Google+ is the “fastest-growing network thingy ever.” In its blog post, Google says, “More than 500 million people have upgraded, 235 million are active across Google (+1’ing apps in Google Play, hanging out in Gmail, connecting with friends in Search…), and 135 million are active in just the stream.” Google also mentioned that its photo-editing app Snapseed is available to Android users, and will be free starting today.
