GM Names New Marketing and Advertising Exec

In yet another wave of changes, General Motors has hired Mike Jackson, GM’s Western regional general manager, as VP-marketing and advertising. The post takes effect March 1.

Jackson will replace Brent Dewar who will move to a special assignment pending his retirement later this year, the company said.

“In his current assignment, Mike has led the team that has helped GM gain back market share in California,” CEO Rick Wagoner said in a statement. “He’s built strong relationships with dealers and employees in creating marketing initiatives, all of which should prove especially useful as we focus on additional key markets where we need to improve GM’s performance.”

Jackson, 49, joined GM in 2000 as executive director of sales and marketing support. He was named to his current post in 2002.

Earlier this month, Automotive News reported that the automaker planned to slash its marketing budget by more than $200 million this year, bringing its marketing spend to $1.3 billion. The company also called for cuts on benefits, salaries, and dividends, all in an effort to restore the company to profitability in its ongoing North American turnaround effort.
