Brenda Barnes, the former president and CEO of PepsiCola North America, has been named president and COO of Sara Lee Corp. The appointment takes effect July 1.
Barnes, 50, worked for PepsiCo for 22 years holding a number of senior executive positions in operations, general management, manufacturing, sales and marketing. She was named president and CEO in 1996, before leaving the company in 1998 to spend more time with her children.
She serves on a number of corporate boards including Avon Products Inc., The New York Times Co., Sears, Roebuck & Co. and Staples Inc.
She will report to C. Steven McMillan, chairman and CEO of Sara Lee.
In other news, Roderick Palmore has been named executive VP of the corporation. He had been senior-VP, general counsel and secretary since 1999.
