New Yorkers may have been surprised to see Kevin Bacon or Matthew Modine driving a 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid yesterday in Manhattan, but it is all part of Ford Motor Co.’s marketing effort to promote the world’s first hybrid-electric SUV.
Bacon and Modine are part of a driver relay team assembled by Ford to see how far the environmentally conscious vehicle can be driven in city traffic on just one tank of gas.
The “Manhattan on a Tank of Gas” promotion kicked off at 7 a.m. and is scheduled to run through today. The results of the event will be released Wednesday at the New York International Auto Show.
