FOOTBALL THE BEST SPORT FOR PROMOS: SURVEY

Fans are ready for some football — and some golf, and basketball.

A survey, conducted this week, of 213 sports and marketing execs found that 57% think football is the best sport to reach consumers, followed by golf (cited by 21%), basketball (14%), baseball (7%) and hockey (1%).

Respondents said basketball and baseball have benefited most from the growing number of international pro players, but last year’s threat of a baseball strike hurt the sport’s marketability.

Fully 69% of respondents favor pro sports as marketing vehicles to collegiate events, cited by 29% of execs. TSE Sports & Entertainment, New York City, conducted the survey.
