EU Data Privacy Commissioners to Create Easier Privacy Notices

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

The Article 29 Working Party, a committee of European Union data privacy commissioners, will create corporate privacy notices that are easy for consumers to comprehend and compare with those of other organizations.

The new approach includes using a common notice throughout Europe which incorporates “very short,” “condensed” and “complete” notice options. The new format won’t reduce the amount of information given to consumers in privacy notices. Its purpose is to increase transparency by allowing notices to be given in a more easily understandable format.

“This is a significant step in creating a common, worldwide platform for privacy notices,” said Martin Abrams, executive director for the Center for Information Policy Leadership at global law firm Hunton & Williams, in a statement.
