Electronic Arts Launches NBA Live Competition

Virtual hoops stars tip off competition in the 2008 EA Sports NBA Live Challenge tomorrow in Los Angeles.

Live qualifying rounds in the annual competition to crown the top video game player of EA Sports’ popular NBA video game will be held in several cities as a prelude to the finals competition during the NBA All-Star Jam Session presented by adidas in New Orleans next month. Winners from the qualifying rounds win a trip for two to New Orleans and a shot at the $10,000 grand prize.

Regional competitions will be held in Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, New York, Philadelphia, Boston and New Orleans leading up to the finals. Players can also compete online by registering at for a chance to go up against the eight regional finalists on Feb. 16, the day before the NBA All-Star Game.

“Our goal is to set the competitive standard for sports gaming and entertainment in the professional basketball space and holding the finals at such a star-studded event as the NBA All-Star Jam Session gets us closer to that goal,” said Brian Movalson, EA Sports marketing director, in a statement.

All tourney competition will use the “EA Sports NBA Live ’08” game on the Xbox 360 video game system.
