The Direct Marketing Association has canceled its Net.Marketing conference, which was scheduled for Sept. 23-25 in Denver. The DMA attributed the postponement to companies cutting back on travel budgets.
DMA officials did not have pre-registration exhibitor or attendee figures at deadline. Fall 2000’s Net.Marketing conference featured nearly 90 exhibitors.
According to DMA spokesperson Christina Duffney, the spring Net.Marketing conference will be held in Las Vegas May 5-7. The conference was pushed back from its traditional February date to allow the economy more time to recover, Duffney said.
In place of the fall Net.Marketing conference, the DMA is offering a one-day event in Denver on Sept. 25 called the Denver Interactive Marketing Forum. The event will feature a scaled-down version of Net.Marketing, including two morning sessions, a keynote speaker, and two afternoon sessions.
Both exhibitors and attendees will be able to participate without sacrificing their right to a refund or credit. Exhibitors and attendees that had signed up for the fall Net.Marketing conference have several options regarding their registration fees. They can participate in the DMA fall or the spring Net.Marketing shows, space permitting, without paying any difference in price. They can apply the entry fee to any other DMA event, or they can receive a refund.
Duffney also said that the DMA would absorb any penalties resulting from changing airline reservations. Most airlines, she noted, allow a year to use changed tickets.
Sessions hosts are being contacted today and Monday regarding the September show’s cancellation.
