Disabled Vets Foundation Raises Millions by Mail for Memorial

The Disabled Veterans’ Life Memorial Foundation reported it has secured $7.5 million in pledges in the first quarter to cover pre-construction and construction costs for new memorial in Washington, DC.

Through direct mail the foundation has amassed a list of 877,000 donors. It’s goal is to build a list with 1 million donors.

The foundation had a $2.3 million operating budget for the first quarter. It has received more than 1.5 million contributions with half coming from repeat donors.

This memorial will honor veterans of the ongoing Iraq and Afganistan wars, as well as veterans of prior wars.

The design of the memorial has been approved. A site for it adjacent to the National Mall near the U.S. Botanic Garden has been transferred to control of the National Park Service.
