Dell Computer Corp. has entered the printer market.
After signing an agreement with Lexmark on Tuesday, the computer direct marketer will produce Dell inkjet and laser printers and cartridges to sell direct to consumers. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Under the first phase of the two-part agreement, Lexington, KY-based Lexmark will supply the printers through the holiday season.
Austin, TX-based Dell and Lexmark will work during this period to develop products unique to Dell.
Dell will roll out its own printers and other imaging products during the first half of next year.
Dell leads the PC direct marketing sector; competitors worry that it could elbow them aside in the printer arena also.
