Dan Bacin was a car nut before he was a restaurateur. So to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his Bacino’s Pizza chain in Chicago, Bacin bought four Volkswagen Beetles and had them custom-painted for deliveries. Every order in Bacino’s six restaurants this summer is worth one entry in an anniversary sweepstakes to win the Race Bug (at right, with Bacin and his wife, Linda). Other cars are painted with retro-’70s graphics and quotes about Bacino’s from local celebs. The Bugs will tool around summer festivals as well as do delivery duty – they’ve already been serviced as part of VW of America’s national recall. The sweeps winner can have the car painted back to, er, normal, but there’s not much Bacin can do to get rid of that pepperoni smell in the upholstery.
