CVS/pharmacy is donating $1.1 million to build playgrounds for kids with disabilities and to purchase playground equipment for its “School’s out! Go Play!” initiative.
The drug store chain has pledged the money to the non-profit group Boundless Playgrounds to fund construction of new playgrounds in Boston, Dallas and Los Angeles next year, as well as contributing to accessible playgrounds already in the works in 12 cities nationally.
A portion of the donation will fund $1,000 grants in 60 communities for Boundless Playground materials to make existing playgrounds accessible to kids with disabilities.
“We are not only bringing signature CVS All Kids Can Boundless playgrounds to three major cities, but we are also supporting grassroots efforts by local community organizations to bring inclusive playgrounds to their neighborhoods,” said CVS spokesperson Eileen Howard Dunn, in a statement.
The initiative is part of CVS All Kids Can, a program run by CVS’s philanthropic arm, CVS Caremark Charitable Trust. Last year, All Kids Can donated $950,000 to build eight Boundless Playground facilities in Florida.
