CPAEmpire to rebrand Affiliate.com

Posted on

If you had visited affiliate.com in the past couple of months, you would have noticed a standard domain parking page, in this case powered by Smartname.com. Interestingly, though, if you have pop-ups enabled, when visiting the page, you would have seen a pop-under of the affiliate signup page at CPA Empire, the affiliate network of parent company Media Breakaway.

Today, at their client summit, CPA Empire will officially announce their rebrand to Affiliate.com, a process that will formally complete by Ad:Tech NYC, but will have them brandishing some transitory elements at the upcoming Search Engine Strategies show.

The rebrand is an interesting move. Richter’s CPA Empire is far from the first to undergo a name change, but his choice of a premium generic name is a much more expensive move than often seen for privately held companies without outside funding. It perhaps also suggests the companies desire to take a more public role in the world of affiliate marketing. It is in many ways the performance marketing equivalent of Advertising.com’s rebrand from Teknosurf in 2000. That company didn’t quite have the storied past that CPA Empire has for better or worse enjoyed, and cliche as it is, only time will tell how this transition fares. Regardless, you can almost see it as a company not quite rising from the ashes, but one that has shaken off its share of legal battles announcing to the world that they haven’t seen anything yet. Knowing them, we probably haven’t.
