Coca-Cola Taps Allstate Executive as New CMO

Coca-Cola has named Joseph V. Tripodi as its chief marketing and commercial officer, a new position.

The former Allstate marketing executive will oversee a new function that combines the company’s global marketing and commercial organizations. In addition, Tripodi will be in charge of coordinating and leading Coca-Cola’s strategic direction in commercial leadership.

The position takes effect on Sept. 4.

Coca-Cola has been without a chief marketing officer since 2005 when Chuck Fruit stepped down after his position had been diminished because of restructuring (Promo Xtra, Aug. 31, 2005).

Since then, Mary E. Minnick had been handling marketing, innovation and strategy. She left the company in February.

Most recently, Tripodi was senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Allstate Insurance Co., where he handled the structure, strategy and execution of the company’s marketing efforts. Prior to that, he was chief marketing officer for The Bank of New York.

In addition, Tripodi held a global marketing position for nine years with MasterCard International, where he was behind the “Priceless” campaign.

At Allstate, Joan H. Walker, senior vice president of corporate relations, will become interim chief marketing officer to replace Tripodi.
