Online catalog sales will account for more than two-thirds of consumer e-commerce spending this year, according to a report by market research firm Insight research, Parsippany, NJ.
Online catalogs will make up $13 billion in revenue in 2000, or 68% of the estimated $19.2 billion total consumer e-commerce market. U.S. households will spend an average of $815 this year on catalogs online.
In spite of these numbers, print catalogs are not being replaced by their online counterparts, the study said. On the contrary, a number of consumer catalog companies said their Web site promotes distribution of their print catalog.
