Canon Reruns NFL Photo Contest Play

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Canon is reprising its amateur football photo contest with former quarterback Archie Manning as its star play caller to hype its National Football League sponsorship role.

The camera maker drew 4,100 entries for its “Why Do You Love Football Contest?” last year, with a particularly strong response in the teen division, which produced the overall winner. Manning hits airwaves Sept. 3 in a satellite media blitz to boost the new contest.

The contest will also be promoted on Canon’s Web site, http://www.usa.canon.com/.nfl, where submissions will be accepted from Sept. 1 through Dec. 3. Finalists’ shots will be posted online in December, when fans can choose the winner.

“For us, it’s about getting people to take pictures of things they love,” said Rob Altman, Canon manager of camera marketing.

Fans will also be able to create their own slide shows with musical accompaniment using pictures they submit, playing off the “journey builder” that Canon is incorporating into a new Rebel ad campaign.

The winner receives four tickets to Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa and gets his or her photo displayed in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canon, OH. The winner also receives a trip for four to the Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony next August.

Along with playing spokesman, Manning will also be a judge in the photo competition.

Canon is also rerunning its “Shoot Like a Pro Sweepstakes,” with fans logging onto their local teams’ Web sites for a chance to win a Canon Rebel XSi camera and an opportunity to shoot a home game while getting tips from NFL team photographers.

Nearly 80 fans of the New York Giants, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dophins, New England Patriots, San Diego Chargers, Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins will be randomly selected as winners throughout the upcoming NFL season.
