Burger King Rolls Out Star Wars-Themed Gift Cards, Toy Premiums

Burger King Corp. has reunited with the Star Wars franchise one last time to back the chain’s launch of its first-ever stored-value/gift cards.

The Star Wars-themed Have It Your Way gift cards are available in six designs, each featuring two Stars Wars charactersone good and the other from the Dark Side. The limited edition Stars Wars-branded cards require a $10 minimum balance and can be loaded with up to $100.

Burger King launched the program to build brand loyalty among customers and drive trial with gift card recipients, said Julian Gomez, director of operations, strategic planning for Burger King. The gift cards are available in more than 7,000 Burger King restaurants nationwide.

“The commemorative Have It Your Way gift cards available in the United States let guests customize their Burger King experience and keep a piece of Stars Wars history that they can use again and again,” said Russ Klein, CMO, Burger King Corp., in a statement.

The QSR announced this summer it would sell stored value cards to give customers new payment and gift-giving options (Xtra Aug. 17).

Burger King is supporting the launch with online materials, P-O-P and TV spots.

To round out the Stars Wars experience, the QSR is out with new Stars Wars premiums, including six digital hologram watches and 17 new Kids Meal toys. The watches come with a collector’s tin and are available for $1.99 with the purchase of a Burger King Value Meal.

The Kids Meals premiums celebrate all six Stars Wars films with different toy characters from each title. The promotion concludes Burger King’s longtime association with the Stars Wars franchise. In May, the QSR rolled out 31 Stars Wars toys as Kids Meals premiums (Xtra May 11), marking its first global promotion around the release of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.

The Stars Wars promotion ends in mid December or until supplies last. Following the promotion, Burger King’s Have It Your Way cards will feature traditional menu items, including the Enormous Omelet Sandwich and the Double Whopper, Gomez said.
