After decreasing catalog circulation by 24%, Brookstone Inc. reported that direct-to-customer sales for the third quarter decreased 6.8% to $12.5 million.
Sales for the quarter increased 7.4% to $62.8 million, compared to $58.5 million one year ago. Same-store sales increased 7%. The company reported a net loss of $6.7 million. The quarter ended Nov. 2.
Year-to-date, sales increased 4.1% to 190.7 million, compared to $183.1 million one year ago. Direct-to-customer sales decreased 0.5% to $35.5 million. The net loss was $15.4 million compared to $16.9 million one year ago.
The company’s direct marketing business consists of three catalogs: Brookstone, Hard-to-Find Tools and Gardeners Eden as well as an e-commerce site at www.brookstone.com
