Brookstone Inc. reported sales of $98.3 million during its second quarter, a 22.2% increase from the $80.5 million it recorded during second quarter 2003. The quarter ended Aug. 1.
Direct to consumer sales rose 16.6% during the quarter, winding up at $16.3 million. The company recorded strong sales during its Fathers’ Day promotions.
While the company will not release its profit or loss numbers until later this year, it did note that traditionally the company takes a loss during the first three quarters of the year and makes its profit during the fourth quarter.
The Nashua, NH-based retailer did say that it was trimming its forecast loss from between four and six cents per share to between three and four cents per share. During second quarter 2003 it recorded a 12 cents per share loss.
