Movie rental chain Blockbuster has named Rebeca Johnson as chief marketing officer.

Johnson joined Blockbuster from Brinker International where she was chief marketing and global branding officer. In that role, she was responsible for all brand development strategies, consumer insights, culinary development, marketing communications and innovation for Brinker’s casual dining restaurant brands, which include Chili’s Bar and Grill, Romano’s Macaroni Grill and On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina.

She replaces Curt Anderson who left the position about six months ago, the company said. Johnson started in that job in May, a company spokesperson said.

Before that, Johnson worked 16 years at PepsiCo/Frito-Lay/KFC in a variety of general management, marketing and sales roles. Most recently, she oversaw growth strategies for the Doritos and Cheetos business unit, where she was in charge of brand strategy, positioning and architecture, new product development, channel management, sales integration, supply chain forecasting and overall financial performance.

She started her career at Ogilvy and Mather Advertising.
