AT&T Rolls Host of Multi-platform Sports Campaigns

Whether you favor professional golf, follow college baseball or just like to watch Tiger Woods do his thing, telco AT&T has a digital promotion for you, in a range of channels from online and mobile video to Facebook, text messaging and live events.

Through June 22, golf fans can enter the AT&T “Favorite Foursome” sweepstakes to win a VIP trip for themselves and three friends to the final two days of the 2009 AT&T National Tournament, to be played July 4 and 5 at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD.

The carrier is offering entrants three ways to get into the game. Using any wireless carrier, they can text TRIP to 21234 to be automatically entered for a chance to win. Fans can also get into the game by gong to AT&T’s Facebook page. Entrants who choose this channel can also invite three friends to join their own “Favorite Foursome” through Facebook and in exchange will get a special AT&T national sweepstakes graphic posted to their Facebook Wall.

Finally, users can get to the “Favorite Foursome” entry page by going through a banner ad at the AT&T Fan Zone Web site.

The winner, selected by a random drawing, will earn four round-trip flights to Washington DC, two nights of lodging, transportation passes and access to the Grey Goose lounge at the event, and a $400 gift certificate redeemable at the competition’s Front 9 merchandise area, among other perks.

If you’d rather watch Tiger Woods from your sofa, desk chair or a park bench, AT&T is offering on-demand content from “Tiger Jam XII”, a charity golf event held May 15 and 16 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The carrier is offering video content from a private golf clinic held by Woods during the event, including golf tips from Woods and a backstage look at the event’s charity concert by No Doubt.

PC-based fans can access the content at the AT&T Fan Zone site, while subscribers to AT&T’s U-verse TV cable service can watch it for free in the On Demand library. And AT&T wireless customers can get mobile access to the video from any phone with video capability. The wireless footage will be archived for 90 days.

And last weekend, Midwestern fans who prefer a little pitching and catching with their hitting could also benefit from AT&T’s sponsorship of the 2009 NCAA Men’s College World Series, now being played in Omaha NE. The carrier took part in the opening weekend CWS Fan Fest, a free interactive area outside the games’ venue at Rosenblatt Stadium, with Speed Zone, a station of interactive games.

Among other activities, attending baseball fans could try their play-by-play skills on footage of college baseball plays and use AT&T Navigator GPS devices to compete to find the shortest distances to each of the contending teams’ home schools, the best route to Omaha landmarks, and the cheapest gas prices.

Speed zone also included a mobile TV “live bar” to let fans watch TV broadcasts, including some of the CWS games, over mobile devices for free. Autograph sessions Friday June 12 through Sunday June 14 included appearances from such baseball figures as Joe Carter, Rollie Fingers, Carlton Fisk and Dale Murphy, both at the Fan Fest and at AT&T retail locations around Omaha.
