Alltel Wireless has launched a sweepstake to promote its service that lets subscribers call any 10 numbers for free.
The My Circle 500 sweepstakes is a text-to-win promotion that offers a grand prize of up to $500,000.
To enter, players text RACE to 67783 or log onto MyCircle500.com. Ten finalists get the chance at the top prize. Weekly prizes include LG 8600 handsets, accessories and Alltel Wireless gift cards.
The 10 sweepstakes finalists will take their “pit crew” of 10 friends and family members on an all-expense-paid trip to Charlotte, NC, on May 24-27, the site of the NASCAR Winston Cup. The finalists will tour the Penske Race Shop and meet the No. 12 Alltel Dodge team.
On race day, the teams will participate in a go-kart and pit crew challenge. The team with the fastest time wins $200,000.
If the winning team completes the pit crew portion of the challenge faster than 14.5 seconds—the established benchmark time for the racing industry—the team will win an additional $300,000.
“For the first time, race fans will get a taste of what it’s like to be the stars on the track and in the pits as they compete head to head for up to $500,000,” said Laura Cook, senior vice president of marketing communications for Alltel Wireless.
Alltel is currently running another major promotion tied to its My Circle calling services.
In a partnership with 13 universities, students from each school get a chance to shoot a basket during a big game and win $100,000. Players enter via text message or online at MyCircleMania.com. (PROMO February).
Alltel spent $110 million on advertising during the first three quarters of 2006, compared with $87.4 million during the same period in 2005, according to TNS Media Intelligence.
