1-800-FLOWERS.com Brings Kids, Seniors Online and Together

In the latest in a series of live promotional events around the New York area, online florist 1-800-FLOWERS.com on Wednesday brought school kids and seniors together in Harlem to learn how the Internet can keep the generations in touch.

With the help of the Kbuzz marketing agency, 1-800-FLOWERS.com ran an afternoon workshop on Web tactics at the Harlem Link Charter School on West 122nd Street in New York City. Attendees were instructed in how to use basic Web tools such as Google, Hotmail and Eons.com a social network targeted at the over-50 demographic.

As part of the promotion, 1-800-FLOWERS.com donated a large holiday-themed floral display to the school, along with coupons for Kwanzaa-related gifts and floral bouquets. The e-commerce merchant also donated a laptop, which was raffled off later that evening during the school’s winter festival celebration.

“I believe in the power of this program to help foster learning and understanding between generations,” Harlem Link operations co-director Steven Evangelista said in a statement. “I’m very excited that 1-800-FLOWERS.com has made this commitment to us.”

The event was the latest in 1-800-FLOWERS.com’s “Reconnections” program aimed at helping people strengthen links with the ones they love. On Dec. 4, the company ran a similar workshop at the Samuel Field YMHA in Little Neck, Queens. At that event, which also mingled seniors and young people from the Y’s children’s programs, 1-800-FLOWERS.com donated a Hanukah floral display and handed out coupons for holiday-related gifts.
