Gier, 43, will be executive VP-marketing, responsible for all aspects of marketing the company’s beverage portfolio in the Americas, including Dr Pepper, Snapple, Mott’s Apple Juice, Alamato and other brands.
He will work from offices in Plano, TX, and Rye Brook, NY, reporting to Americas Beverages President and CEO Gilbert Cassagne.
At YUM, Gier was responsible for 39 marketing departments as well as the company’s five major brands—Pizza Hut, KFC, Taco Bell, Long John Silver’s and A&W All-American Food Restaurants.
“He’s a well-known, well-respected and results-driven manager whose strengths include developing strong marketing teams,” Cassagne said in a statement.
Last December, amid a restructuring of the Americas Beverages Group, two top marketing executives at Snapple, Michael Sands and Sheryl Adkins-Green, resigned.
Sands, the chief marketing officer of Snapple Beverage Group and Mott’s had been a contender for the top marketing position created for the restructured Americas Beverage Group, which combines the Snapple Beverage Group, Mott’s and Dr Pepper/Seven Up businesses. Snapple Senior VP-marketing Adkins-Green also quit.
The company had been actively seeking a new CMO to head marketing for the combined businesses for the last seven months.
The company plans to consolidate its Mott’s offices in Stamford, CT, and the Snapple offices in White Plains, NY, to office space at 900 King Street in Rye Brook. The facility is expected to be ready this spring.
