WPP Group’s Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide has bought government relations agency Federalist Group to supplement its p.r. capabilities. Terms were not disclosed.
The move comes as marketing dovetails with government, and legislators scrutinize business operations. Federalist handles lobbying, p.r. and crisis management in agriculture, appropriations, defense, energy, the environment, federal marketing, financial services, homeland security, telecommunications and transportation. Federalist CEO Stewart Hall remains at the helm of the Washington, DC-based agency. The group will move into new offices with Ogilvy PR/Washington.
“We view direct advocacy as a complimentary piece of a larger offering that includes public relations, relationship building, grassroots support and issues management,” said Hall in a statement. “Ogilvy PR’s talent and global network allows us to do that.”
“The merger of the Federalist Group’s wealth of knowledge in government affairs with our existing expertise will bring new dynamism to this increasingly important area of communications and advocacy,” said Ogilvy PR CEO Marcia Silverman in a statement.
