Beleaguered grocer Winn-Dixie will sell 102 stores to 30 different purchasers for about $45.6 million as part of its Chapter 11 reorganization.
The Jacksonville, FL-based grocer reached purchase agreements for 79 stores in early July, then held an auction on July 18 for the remaining units, most of which will continue to operate as grocery stores.
Winn-Dixie will sell or close another 224 stores, keeping 587 stores in the Southeast and the Bahamas. The retailer has asked the court to let it hold closing sales in the stores that won’t continue as supermarkets; those sales likely would take place between Aug. 1 and mid-September.
Winn-Dixie filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February (Xtra Feb. 23).
