Whirlpool Sets Record Second Quarter Sales

Whirlpool Corp.’s second-quarter sales rose 33% to a record $4.7 billion, reflecting the acquisition of Maytag Corp. and strong consumer demand worldwide.

Excluding the Maytag purchase, Whirlpool sales climbed approximately 5%.

“We are pleased with our second-quarter financial results, as well as the rapid progress made in integrating the Maytag business,” said Whirlpool CEO Jeff Fettig in a statement. “Our Maytag integration activities are progressing at an efficient and disciplined pace and remain on-track with previous expectations.”

During the period, the Benton Harbor, MI-based appliance maker announced its intention to sell the Hoover floor-care, Dixie Narco vending systems, Amana commercial microwave and Jade commercial products appliance businesses.

In May, Whirlpool announced it would cut 4,500 jobs as part of the Maytag integration (PROMO Xtra May 11, 2006).

Whirlpool’s annual sales top $19 billion; its brands include KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Brastemp and Bauknecht as well as flagship Whirlpool and now Maytag.
