Wendy’s Launches Music-Themed Burger Contest

Wendy’s is promoting the launch of its newest hamburger, the Baconator, with a contest that asks people to create “burger music” for a chance to have their track played on the radio.

Players create their own tunes at Thisismyburger.com by mixing Baconator “sound bites”—noises associated with preparing and serving a hamburger—or download the sounds bites to mix into a song of their own. The final tracks can be uploaded to the site.

Music producer Michael Hudson will select the top winner in each category: Rock/Alternative/Country or Urban/Hip Hop.

Two grand-prize winners will receive a studio session with Hudson to prepare the winning tracks for radio play in a major market and $5,000. Nine runners-up in each category will receive $500, burgers for a year with Wendy’s gift cards and have their tracks released on the Wendy’s Web site as streaming audio files and downloadable ringtones.

The contest runs through Aug. 31.

The Baconator includes six strips of hickory smoked bacon on a half-pound beef patty with American cheese, ketchup and mayonnaise.

And in a separate contest, people can vie for a chance to win $25,000 for creating a new Wendy’s burger.

Visitors to ThisIsMyBurger.com can create their own hamburger recipe by selecting ingredients from the site. Entrants must develop an original title or name for their submission. A limit of 50,000 entries will be accepted through Aug. 15.

A panel of judges will score entries based on taste, build, originality and appropriateness to the Wendy’s brand. The pool will be narrowed down to 10 finalists.

One grand-prize winner gets $25,000 for the best burger, the chance to have their entry offered as a limited menu item and the chance to appear in publicity campaigns and on Wendy’s Web site. Nine finalists will receive burgers for one year via Wendy’s gift cards.

Online marketing supports the promotions.
