Wasserstein & Co., L.P., is about to purchase Bear Creek, owner of the Harry and David catalog, for $260 million, according to the New York Post.
Yamanouchi, the parent firm of Bear Creek, put the direct marketing company up for sale last October.
Other interested candidates, Ripplewood Holdings and Thomas H. Lee Partners, could reenter the picture if this deal falls through, the Post reported.
Bruce Wasserstein, the head of Wasserstein & Co., recently acquired New York magazine from Primedia, publisher of Direct, in a personal deal.
