Wal-Mart TV Network is adding a new channel: Checkout TV.
The expansion of Wal-Mart’s in-store TV network puts flat-panel monitors in checkout lanes, running local entertainment, news and weather updates, and promos for new products and items shelved near checkout. That differs from Wal-Mart TV content elsewhere in the store. Checkout content will be customized to the store level.
Checkout TV bows in eight markets this fall after a year of testing.
“Feedback from our year long pilot was very strong; Checkout TV demonstrated the ability to both engage shoppers and improve their checkout experience,” said Wal-Mart Senior Director of Media Troy Steiner in a statement. “This latest expansion of the Wal-Mart TV Network will provide a great vehicle for further in-store integrated messaging.”
Premier Retail Networks, San Francisco, handles Wal-Mart TV.
