Verizon, Best Buy, Others Sponsor NYC Apple Parade

Remember the Cow Parade? Well, New York says bring on the apples.

Some 300 oversized apples will be decorated and dolled up by artists and set out on display throughout New York City from mid-August through mid-October. The four-foot high apples will be sponsored by numerous companies including Verizon, Starwood Hotels, Best Buy, NBC and the New York Mercantile Exchange. The sponsors names will be printed on a plaque at the base of the apple. Each apple will be listed in the Official Viewing Guide mapping all apple locations.

Sponsors pay $8,500 per apple, which can be used in promotional and advertising activities. A presenting sponsor of the Big Apple Fest, who has yet to be identified, can sponsor an orchard of apples—20 or more.

Once the exhibit closes, the apples will be auctioned off by Sotheby’s, with a large part of the proceeds going to the non-profit work of NYC & Co., the Police Athletic League and City Harvest.

Jon Clay and Bill Carroll, who sold corporate sponsorships for the Cow Parade in 2000, have partnered with NYC & Co, the city’s travel and tourism promotional agency, to manage the festival.
