The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded more than $80,000 to two states to help fund projects to promote direct marketing among farmers.
Specifically, the USDA has given 40,000 to Hawaii’s Department of Agriculture, in cooperation with Fresh From the Farm LLC to fund for a pilot project to explore the feasibility of establishing a farmer-based online direct marketing vehicle.
The USDA has also granted $43,000 to the University of Nebraska Food Processing Center to facilitate development of the Nebraska Local Food Cooperative, a regional direct marketing system.
These grants are part of $1.3 million in 26 matching grants to 20 states and Puerto Rico to support agricultural market research.
