US Airways’ Ashby Resigns

Bruce Ashby, executive VP-marketing and planning, for US Airways said he would resign from the company this month to accept a job as CEO of IndiGo, a start-up, low-cost airline.

Ashby has worked for US Airways for nine years, holding a number of senior management positions in finance, planning, operations, corporate development and marketing. In his current job, Ashby oversees marketing, planning, alliances for US Airways and US Airways Express. His duties will be divided among members of the US Airways management team.

“Bruce Ashby has been personally responsible for many of US Airways’ accomplishments,” said Bruce Lakefield, US Airways president and CEO. “He is a brilliant individual and has played a pivotal role in our reorganization, and the financial backers of IndiGo clearly recognize his many talents.”

In his new role, Ashby will lead IndiGo, a new, low-cost airline that will be based in India. The airline will focus on the domestic inter-India aviation market.

US Airways is preparing to merge with America West. The merger, announced in May, is expected to be complete by October.
