U.S. to Stop Crackdown on Canadian MO Drugs

The federal government plans to stop its crackdown on discount drugs mailed from Canadian pharmacies to U.S. customers, according to wire service reports.

Earlier this week, officials from the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection sent an e-mail to some members of Congress, saying that they would abandon the seizure policy. Instead of the broad effort, the e-mail said, the agency will sample and test mail-order medications for counterfeits and ineffective ingredients on “randomly generated days throughout the fiscal year.”

The reversal by the Department of Homeland Security, which operates the bureau, could eliminate many of the fears of senior citizens and other consumers that drugs purchased from Canadian mail order houses would be confiscated.
