The recent spate of layoffs at telemarketing firms nationwide shows no sign of letting up. Analysts blame the year-old federal do-not-call list and outsourcing to overseas vendors for declines in the teleservices sector.
Before the Fourth of July holiday, Alltel Corp., Birch Telecom Inc. and Access Direct announced plans to reduce their telemarketing staffs. Last week MCI Inc. announced layoffs and closures of telemarketing centers in four states.
