Cataloger/retailer Talbots Inc., based in Hingham, MA, reported net income of $19.4 million for the quarter ended May 1, a gain over $14.5 million in the first quarter last year.
Net sales for the quarter increased 8% to $293 million from $271.5 million reported for the quarter ended May 2, 1998.
Catalog sales were up 8% to $49.5 million from $45.7 million in the prior year period. Retail store sales were up 8% to $243.5 million from $225.8 million last year.
