Study: 49% of Small Businesses Have Never Updated Their Online Listings

Local search continues to rise in prominence, especially as mobile local search surges.

A study from YP and immr found that 4 in 10 consumers use local search at least once a day, and that 70 percent of smartphone owners use location-aware apps. Apparently, many local businesses are either unaware of the importance of local search or just haven’t had the chance to tend to their local-search listings, as research from SinglePlatform, a division of Constant Contact, finds that nearly half of small-business owners have never updated their online listings.

According to the study from SinglePlatform, 49 percent of small businesses have never updated their online listings on search engines, review sites or mobile apps. “With consumers relying more on not just online listings, but rich online listings, small businesses are missing a critical opportunity to bring new customers in the door by offering accurate listings with the information consumers want and need to make a purchase decision
