Stop & Shop Runs 10% Discount to Boost Business

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Stop & Shop is pushing a new 10% discount coupon for customers to apply to their next order to drive store traffic and drum up good will.

The chain is emphasizing its empathy for inflation-afflicted Americans who have started receiving their promised federal refund checks. Stop & Shop patrons must use their loyalty cards and spend $200 on an order to receive the discount checkout coupon.

“People will get some extra money from those checks,” Stop & Shop spokesperson Robert Keane said. “We thought this was the best way to help them make the most of that cash.”

Stop & Shop has signage in stores publicizing the promotion, which it has also plugged in newspaper ads. The effort will end sometime later this year, Keane said. And early consumer response to the offer, unveiled last week, has been positive, he said.

The incentive comes on the heels of other grocery store chains and retailers launching their own offers to capture some sales from economic stimulus checks. Last month, companies like Supervalu, Sears and Kroger stores talked up similar programs to people who bring their economic stimulus checks to the stores to exchange them for gift cards
