Steve Case, chairman AOL Time Warner Inc., and co-founder of America Online, has discussed spinning off the Internet division but analysts said such a move is not likely, according to a Reuters report.
The spin off was mentioned in discussions about the direction the division was taking prior to a Dec. 3 meeting with investors, the report said.
AOL has suffered considerably amid the sharp downturn in advertising spending. Its subscriber growth has fallen off and a federal probe into its accounting practices is underway.
Much of the dissatisfaction with the firm has been directed at Case of late. Speculation persists that Case will likely leave the company sometime next year, the report said.
