State Department Mail Facility Tests Positive for Anthrax

Eight of 55 tests have proven positive for anthrax at a remote State Department mail facility in Virginia, the Associated Press reported.

Based on evidence, this means a tainted letter has yet to be discovered in the State Department system, the Centers for Disease Control said.

The State Department closed its mail system on Oct. 24 and told posts around the world to seal and shut down pouch mail. Officials are now beginning to examine that mail.

Officials have located three tainted letters nationwide. The CDC lists 18 people who got sick with anthrax. Four of them died.
