Stanley Marcus, former president of Neiman Marcus who is credited with building the firm from a single store into a major retail chain, has died at 96.
The son of co-founder Herbert Marcus, he began working at the company in 1926. He became president in 1950 and oversaw a massive expansion before selling the firm to Carter Hawley Hale in 1969.
It was under his watch that the Dallas-based company grew from a single store to encompass outlets across the United States. Marcus also headed up the launch of Neiman Marcus
