Sprint has signed on as the first wireless telecommunications sponsor of the National Football League. The deal begins with the 2005 season.
Sprint will also be the presenting sponsor of the Sept. 8 NFL Opening Kickoff event in Boston and the wireless sponsor of the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl MVP balloting.
As part of the agreement, Overland Park, KS-based Sprint will also deliver exclusive NFL content and original programming to its customers. Sprint customers will receive audio and video highlights following the conclusion of the game broadcast window. During the game window, Sprint will distribute audio highlights, live text updates, scores and statistics.
“No other sports marketing arrangement comes close to the fan benefits that we’ve achieved with the NFL,” said Sprint VP-Sponsorships Tom Murphy in a statement. “It represents a clear departure from the standard sports sponsorship, and delivers exclusively into the hands of Sprint customers and fans an entirely new and interactive experience.”
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
