That Web-slinging superhero is making another comeback, this time in comic book form as an FSI under a new licensing deal between Marvel Entertainment, Inc. and News America Marketing, a division of News Corp.
Under the deal, News America Marketing now has the rights to publish collectible editions of Marvel Comic’s original Amazing Spider-Man series. The re-issue will start with the No. 1 issue, which was first published in 1963.
The comic books will target 10 million households in metro markets. News America Marketing has a network of 1,100 newspapers, reaching 68 million households. The first publication of the original Amazing Spider-Man will roll out in August.
“This initiative is bound to have tremendous cross-generational appeal, as millions of fans grew up with the comic books and new fans are being cultivated every day,” said Paul V. Carlucci, chairman and CEO of News America Marketing, in a statement.
News America Marketing is widely known for its FSI insert, SmartSource Magazine, which will remain separate from the comic book.
The Spider-Man comic book will target major metro markets in the U.S. Each book will be split in two and published on consecutive weeks with 46 publications dates (23 issues in all) over the course of the year.
