Spammer Hit With $1 Million Bail

(DIRECT NEWSLINE)—The first spammer convicted under Virginia’s anti-spam law must pay $1 million if he wants to get out of jail—however temporarily—on bail.

Jeremy Jaynes, described by prosecutors as one of the top ten spammers in the world, faces up to nine years in prison when he is sentenced on Feb. 3, according to wire service reports. Circuit Court Thomas Horne set the high bail after prosecutors argued that Jaynes is a flight risk.

The jury that convicted the North Carolina native recommended a nine-year sentence.
