Small Wonders

Nearly a third of U.S. small businesses project their e-commerce sales to increase over the next 12 to 24 months, notes a recent study by the Small Business Research Board.

About 97% of respondents said they expect online revenue to stay the same or rise during the next one to two years. Of that number, 29.2% project a hike.

Not all small businesses are wired, however; 42.7% of respondents said their companies didn’t have an online presence.

Similarly, 67.8% of all respondents don’t sell anything on the Web. Among the remainder, 25.7% sell products on one of their sites; 5.1% generate revenue from two to five sites; .4% from six to 10 sites; and 1% from more than 10 sites.

The poll of more than 550 small businesses in various industries was co-sponsored by Business Today magazine.
