SkyMall Trims Employee Base By 15%

SkyMall, Inc., Phoenix, has laid off 15% of its work force-approximately 50 employees — with some of the cuts taking place within its technology sectors. The company launched its new Web site and support infrastructure in February, and has eliminated positions it deemed no longer essential.

The moves came after the company, which had four profitable years prior to 1999, showed a net loss last year. The company does not anticipate making any further staff reductions at this time. SkyMall is an on-flight cataloger, which uses airline seat pockets as its distribution mechanism.
