Eighty-seven Simon malls will feature the first annual Kidgits Club Book Blast event on Feb. 28 to encourage kids to read.
The event is part of Simon Properties’ Kidgits Club, which hosts activities and special offers for kids to drive family traffic in Simon malls.
Local celebrities such as VA Senator Russell Potts and Miss Teen America Kimber Lacey in each market will read books chronicling adventures of popular characters such as Maisy and Kim Possible. Children can also participate in various interactive activities, including an “illustration station” where they can draw scenes and characters from various books. A contest will be held for free books, book-related toys and prizes.
Registered Kidgits Club members will receive a free gift bag including activity sheets, a snack and a Kidgits Bookmark. Non-members can join at the event. Event sponsors include Pria, who will be providing children’s snacks and various mall booksellers.
Participants are also encouraged to bring a slightly used or new book for donation to local charities.
