Office supplies marketer Staples, Inc., Framingham, MA, has sold off about 5% of the stock of its online unit Staples.com to venture capitalists General Atlantic Partners LLC, Highland Capital Partners, Greylock Management Corp., Essex Investment Management and Summit Accelerator Partners. The private placement was facilitated by online investment banking firm, Wit Capital Corp.
